Carmen: Poster Design

I designed this poster to promote Carmen being held at the Fort Collins Opera House. The opera tells the tragic romance between Carmen and Don Jose. Earlier in the opera, Carmen receives a tarot reading from a fortune teller that ultimately foreshadows the death of both Carmen and her lover, Don Jose. I designed the poster to imitate the physicality of a traditional tarot card intending to highlight, without spoiling, the romantic tragedy that takes place between the two lovers. Don Jose is represented as the skeleton dancing with Carmen to impersonate the qualities of a ‘death’ tarot card while also alluding to control that he had over Carmen’s life.
